Nothing was going to hold these ladies back from keeping active during lock-down. On the 10th of May 2020, Sara, Shannon, Kim and Ellisia competed in the Mother's day 5KM/10KM virtual event fundraising for NZ heart foundation. The four athletes across three Achilles chapters got together by video message to compete together in the event.
The event was organised by Run NZ which offers a range of Virtual Runs held throughout the year. Many of the Virtual running events are held on Specific Days of the year, or challenges over a period of time or kilometers. The aim is to have as many people throughout New Zealand out running and walking for the benefit of their health. The four athlete also completed the Queen’s birthday virtual 5km event and will be ticking off the Mid Winter Virtual run on July 26th. GO ACHILLES!

In June this year we welcomed Sophie Nabbs our Sports Club Administrator.

Growing up in the Waikato, I have always had a big love for the outdoors, be that hiking, fishing, running or walking my dogs, being out and about has always been something I enjoy. I also have a big love for Achilles which formed when I joined the Hamilton Chapter in 2016 and saw the incredible work that Peter Loft was doing. Working for Marathon Tours NZ and taking groups to events such as the New York Marathon for the past 5 years was a great way to see how Achilles can help their members achieve enormous goals. Through guiding and hearing incredible stories first hand of how Achilles has changed so many people’s lives in such a positive way, this is just one of the many perks of being part of this fantastic group of people. Taking on the role of Sports Club Administrator is such a fantastic opportunity which enables me to further be part of this remarkable charity and to use my skills, experience, passions and values to make a positive impact to Achilles NZ.

I am here to support all of you so please contact me sophie@achillesnz.co.nz  if you need my assistance. Currently I work Tuesdays and Thursdays 8am - 4pm.
I look forward to working with all of you!

We would like to personally thank you for your patience and support during this time of uncertainty. Over the past few months, we have seen many of the chapters doing their very best to keep up the morale.

While we are not out of the woods yet, the future is still looking bright.  We encourage you to stay active, keep smiling, and look after each other out there!
Keep Running, Walking, wheeling and Hand Cycling.
