The second annual Achilles Awards night is to be held in Auckland on Friday 24 May. So please nominate who you believe deserves to be considered the best Female athlete of the Year, Male athlete of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Ambassador of the Year.

Sydney Marathon and associated events Sunday September 15

I was privileged to meet with the Achilles Sydney leaders recently, and they have issued us an invitation for a Friday night celebration leading into the 10km, half marathon and marathon which of course is on the Sunday. Plenty of time on the Saturday for sightseeing and shopping. As you are aware, we are not attending the New York marathon until 2020 so this is a great opportunity to travel overseas and meet up with our neighbours across the ditch. Marathon Tours have a great deal for us so go the link and register NOW!

Pure Sports Nutrition Recipe - Protein Bites

These little bites are a great protein hit. These are great to add to your endurance sports nutrition. They also work great for pre or post-workout snacks or even as a little treat to keep you full.

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. In a food processor chop nuts until in small fine pieces (leave chunky if you like it that way but we like them smooth).

  2. Add protein powder and mix.

  3. Add dates, cranberries, and apricots and mix until a smooth paste forms (this may take a little while).

  4. Take small portion and roll into balls between your hands.

  5. Roll in coconut and place on a plate.

  6. Put in the fridge for 1-2 hours and these are ready to eat. These are best left in the fridge to keep fresh but go great in a lunch box.

The Final Word

Thanks as always to our sponsors, partners guides, volunteers and chapter leaders -I know the athletes of Achilles really do appreciate your passion and commitment to them and the Achilles family. Do have a great month in May whether you are running in any of the events in Rotorua and the Hawkes Bay, or in the various Parkruns around the country. I, along with the Board are looking forward specially to meeting some of you at the Awards Night and the AGM.
